Obituary of Kenneth Newcomb Dummer

Ken (Kenneth) Dummer, age 75, passed away into the arms of his Savior on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center in Clackamas, Oregon. He was born on January 15, 1948, in Ogden Utah. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Fordham Dummer and the love of his life, Anna McMinds. Survived to cherish his memory are his children Keith (Khadija) Dummer, Cindy (Mike) Sapp, grandchildren Austin Dummer, Chelsea (Kyle) McNary, Brendan Dummer, and Micah (Hannah) Sapp, brother Jerry (Connie) Dummer, sister Carol Helms, numerous nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends, neighbors, and church family. Ken graduated from Ogden High School in 1966, where he excelled as a wrestler and was well known and loved by many. He served in the US Navy as an electrical engineer on the USS Benington from 1968-1970, earning a Meritorious Unit Commendation, a National Defense Service Medal, and a Vietnam Service Medal. He lived for numerous years in Siletz, Oregon, where he volunteered as a firefighter and EMT for the Siletz fire department. After moving to Portland, OR he started a career in heat treating metal, retiring at age 66. Ken loved the outdoors, taking time each year for camping and hunting trips, even after he became very ill. He’d spend a week loading his car and an entire day getting his pontoon set up so that he could fish for trout in the Rock Creek Reservoir in the Mt. Hood National Forest. His neighbors and medical providers were always amazed at his dedication to get outside despite the physical challenges he faced. He made a decision to follow Jesus in 2013, and spent the last ten years of his life reading his Bible and fellowshipping with his church family at Potter’s House in Gresham, Oregon. Ken was a big man who loved others in a big way. He was so very loved, and his loss is felt deeply. Following his wishes, Ken’s ashes will be spread in the great outdoors. Ken loved dogs, and spent some of his last hours with a therapy dog named Bentley. He would love to know that donations to local shelters and rescues were made in his name.
