Obituary of Valerie Oakes

Valerie was born in Mitcham England in 1936, she immigrated to the US when she was 12 years old, to Vanport Oregon. She met her husband Robert through a friend. They married and had 7 children. She is survived by her 7 children, 9 grandchildren (1 preceded in death), 16 great-grandchildren. Valerie loves flowers and even went to floristry school. She worked for Roman Holiday Salon for 10 years, her job title was Receptionist, but she was a jack of all trades helping with bookkeeping, mixing colors, scheduling appointments and answering the phones. After her time at the salon, she went to work for UPS. She worked for UPS for 18 years in Portland. Valerie is a very talented singer and sang in the choir for 22 years, at New Hope Church, in Clackamas Oregon, they were a very talented group traveling around to perform. They have even preformed in Carnegie Hall. Valerie loves singing and her time in the choir can be described as the best time of her life. She also enjoyed Bowling, Traveling and Reading, spending time with family and friends. Valerie has spent most of her life giving back to others and lending a helping hand she volunteered for meals on wheels for 20 years. A service for Valerie will be held at Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes, March 31st at 11am, there will be a private viewing for immediate family members to take place prior to the service at 10am.
