Tim White

Obituary of Tim White

Tim White died at home in Portland, Oregon on July 23, 2021, surrounded by love and family. For more than two years, he faced an implacable cancer with courage, grace and humor. He participated in four clinical trials, saying that if they did not help him, they might help someone else. Tim attended Lewis & Clark College, graduating with a degree in business. He worked for several firms in the construction industry. Before his illness, he was a project accountant with Harder Mechanical Contractors, Inc. The center of his life was his family - loving husband to his wife of 25 years, Rachael, the love of his life, and proud father to his beloved son Alex. Making time to do things with them was always a priority. Following a bout of cancer over twenty years ago, he became an avid biker, competing in numerous events and completing several one-hundred-mile rides, and running in the Portland Marathon. The family participated in biking, mud races, triathlons and enjoyed traveling. When cancer took his ability to participate in these activities, he joined online gaming communities and turned to artistic pursuits, painting miniature game figures. Tim carried a sense of fun and adventure with him, and never lost his sense of humor. When Alex ran in the Portland Marathon, Tim created shirts with a shark logo for Alex as the “Great White.” Tim dressed in a full length shark costume with the sign, “Hello Chum. Have you seen my son Alexander the Great White?” and rode his bike along the course to cheer for Alex while he ran. He dressed as Spiderman and greeted children participating in their first biking events. He and Alex participated in bike treasure hunts wearing Star Wars Storm Trooper costumes. For Tim’s last birthday he received a lordship from the Principality of Sealand (yes – it’s a real place). He was known from then on as Lord Timothy and referred to the rest of the population as peasants. He even used his Sealand ID when he checked in at the cancer center for his treatments. When cancer took his voice, he programmed his speech app to tell his jokes. He lived life to the fullest. He is survived by Rachael and Alex, parents James and Sarah White, brother Jonathan and numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by brother Jeffrey Davidson White. Donations in Tim’s memory can be sent to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or to Portland, Oregon area bike-related charities such as Bikes for Humanity PDX, Community Cycling Center or WashCo Bikes.
