I was blessed to meet Kay when I started my career at A-1. Lynda and Carole owned the business but Kay ran the office! She ran a tight ship, especially at lunchtime. She would stand at the door and announce “The bus is leaving!” Didn’t matter if you had a client or not. Lynda and I drove separate often!
Kay was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sharing stories about them with me.

Catherine “Kay” LaVelle was born in Minnesota on January 11, 1936. She moved with her family to Portland, Oregon when she was 5 years old. She attended St. Rose Catholic School in Portland. She married Robert “Bob” Cross and they had three daughters, Sandi, Carole and Lynda. They also fostered two children, Bob and Sandra Jane.
Kay started her banking career in 1968 with First Interstate Bank as a teller. She worked her way up and retired as an Assistant Vice President in 1995.
Kay married Glenn LaVelle in 1972, who also brought his daughter, Cindy, into the family. Kay and Glenn were happily married until his death in 2013. They loved to cruise, golf and dance with a group of friends at the Elks Lodge.
Kay also enjoyed the holidays with her children and grandchildren. One of her favorite holidays was Easter, when she would hide plastic eggs and decorate an “Easter Tree” with treasures for the grandkids.

One of our funniest Easter memories was the year we decided to add some extra plastic eggs to Kay's 80 egg Easter Egg Hunt for her grandkids. She would fill each egg with a quarter and hide them all. Then the kids would go hunting and Kay would keep count until all 80 eggs were found. Then she would have the kids share the quarters equally, but the highest collector would get to go first to the Easter tree that had its own treasures waiting to be picked....
So we decided to add an extra dozen or two eggs (complete with quarters of course!). Carole took pictures to capture the event. Kay had her tally sheet out. The kids would come and drop the eggs in her basket and she would write their number next to their name.... and tally a total as she went. But all of the sudden she had more than 80!!! Hmmm... She added them again.... "No, this can't be." she said....
She headed into her office to use the calculator.... With everyone following... Carole taking pictures :}
We admitted to our shenanigans as she was holding up a calculator tape with a confused look on her face.
