FAREWELL TRIBUTE
Be prepared to hear an amazing tale of a near 70 year old love story from the beginning of the 50’s, Jacqueline Jeanean Sears, born January 22, 1935, and Walter Thomas Freeman O’dell, born
October 6, 1935, both Indiana Hoosiers through high school, then
marriage in first month of year January 17, 1953, and they were blessed with their first born son, Danny, born in December of the same year. Of course why stop at just one--Cynthia followed in
May, 1955--then Cheryl in February, 1958--finally Tammy in April, 1960. In the mid, 50’s Walt’s Mother, Mildred(Mid)decided she
preferred to escape storms and tornadoes, and convinced Walt’s Father, Thomas(Tom), to move to Oregon. Guess what happened next?? In the late 50’s Jackie and Walt decided they too wanted to go “Westward Ho.” Well you know what followed next, Jackie‘s parents, Mary and Thomas(Jack)Sears, and their 7 children settled in beautiful Oregon. There were many hills and valleys throughout the first years of their marriage--one of those being on March 29, 1953, the freight train carrying ammunition derailed alongside our home in Lewis, Indiana(oh yes, there were reserve gas tanks next door)! Walt drove many Sears loved ones to safety in a one-seater with rumble seat. Teenage years rolled around too fast, before we knew it, Brother Buzz(Homer)joined Marines, Jackie and Sister Mary Anne car-hopped at a drive-end eating establishment in Terre Haute(was it A&W??--cannot recall--senior moment)!! Next Jackie and Walt getting married, Once in Oregon, they resided in St. John’s area in North Portland. Walt worked various jobs at gas stations and eventually became a Montgomery Wards employee. He then moved on to become a top-notch mechanic. Jackie fixed meals at home, becoming a great cook, then took on a job cooking at a local Diner. They survived the Columbus Day storm with a few minor issues, but life went on “a day at a time.“ Their children starting to discover romance, marriage, and then the thing parents cannot wait for--grandchildren! Walt found “The Great Escape” by going east of the mountains to deer and elk hunt. Last count of grandchildren 10 plus, and 20 plus great grandchildren--sadly they lost 2 grandsons, one as an infant, and one adult. They loved each one unconditionally, and bragged about them often. They accepted Jesus as their Savior early in life, and was loyal and devoted to the church. Jackie was often referred to as “Our Prayer Warrior.” Walt got an A+, or a crown jewel for the number of times he read the Bible from beginning to end--believe 5 was last count! They led many to Christ. Walt leading Jackie’s youngest Sister Dorothy’s
son, Jeff at the age of 5. Jackie consistently recited “The Lord’s Prayer” to Sister Mary Anne’s Daughter, Cathy, until she finally
got it!! Jackie, known for her delicious recipes. We could hardly wait at family gatherings to see if those tangy baked beans, creamed corn, or perhaps yummy German chocolate cake was arriving. Those gatherings and birthdays simply will not be the same! Most of Jackie and Walt’s years in Oregon, they were blessed with loved ones residing on West Coast. Over the years they resided in N. Portland, then to NE Portland, and final years spent in SE Portland. They enjoyed traveling by car to landmarks, and over the years they visited the Midwest--the Missouri area was where Jackie’s Father Thomas(Jack)family originated from.Thomas(Jack)was born in Arkansas. They kept in touch with the surviving Sears family over all these years, Roxy and Rita. They also kept in touch over the years with Jackie’s Mother’s family in Indiana area, particularly Aunt Pat Creasey, the only living Sister of the Knopp’s 7 children. Recent trips were more closer to home to visit loved ones in California, Arizona, and Washington. One of the most exciting things Jackie and Walt enjoyed was the times Brother Steve and wife Kim planned a gathering for breakfast at Elmer’s Pancake House. Oh how we will miss that, but so very thankful to have gotten to enjoy that precious time with both. The impact they left on all those who were so blessed to have made their acquaintance will never depart from our hearts. From the bottom of our hearts, thanks for making life here on earth so special. They loved The Lord, life, each other, and loved each of us. After so many years of dedication to Oregon, they officially became “Webfoot Oregonians.” Other obstacles they overcome as Oregonians, was surviving the earthquake in 1993--the flood in early 1996--the devastating fires, that became too close for comfort, in 2020. They always stayed positive, and encouraged everyone to do the same. The ’WELCOME’ mat was always open at their home, for friends and family members, just ask any grandchild how Grandma and Grandpa took them in during the difficult times.
Finally, our sincere thanks to CynTina(Cynthia)for being so
dedicated to your Mother and Father and staying all night with
them, giving them the loving care they so desperately deserved and needed their last night before going for medical assistance at the hospital.
GONE, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN.

Mom and Dad loved all their grandbabies and great-grandbabies and just like the sweatshirt says above, “My Grandkids are always & forever in my heart”, there will always be a little piece of them in each of your hearts to carry on, their loving memory…
The Lord bless you; may the Lord keep you; may the Lord make his face to shine upon you and show you his glory. Lord your faithfulness reaches to the sky, keep us all safe, out of danger and harm's way, and from on high Lord send the shadow of your wings and fulfill the promises to us of Psalms: 91…
Amen

Mommy & Daddy, you are the diamonds in my heart, my sunshine by day and my shining star at night. I'm looking up because I know very soon, I'm going to see the king and we'll all be together again. Though I miss you, I'm happy you and daddy are with your mommy and daddy and no more pain, no more tears there!
It must have been amazing when Jesus took your hand and welcomed you into Heaven, your mansion must be so beautiful, with a garden on a farm for Daddy & lots of animals, with the little child leading the little Lion and the Lamb…
Love you Mommy and Daddy,
Your little rebel,

Walt and Jackie are not only my grandparents but two people that I look up to greatly. I love all the laughs and memories we had together and will never forget them. Making alot of decisions in my life I found myself asking...."what would grandma and grandpa think". That is how important in my life they were and will always will be. They loved each and everyone of us unconditionally, just like the good lord they are both with now. They always made me feel special when I was around them and I am pretty sure I was not the only one. I will always value that time together. I think about them everyday, both before they passed and of course now with a heavy heart after they passed.
These two wonderful people left a great legacy and family behind and I am honored to be a part of it. I know that they would be proud of all of us. I am going finish off with a couple memories of things that I think about. These are funny, short and random so bare with me..............
Grandma..........I love you and will forever miss your bourbon balls you made all of us, which there were enough because they were soooooo good and went so fast. I will miss how far I had to bend down to give you a hug and kiss only to have you pinch my cheek and tell me that I am stubborn and you love me.........Grandma, I think we both know where I got that from!
Grandpa, I will forever miss and love you too! You loved hunting and will always remember those times together along with how you and grandma know how much I love it and always were proud of me for it. I will miss our secret handshake where we say.....father, son, and the holy ghost! I remember many years ago when you said you really loved the song Red Dirt Road by Brooks and Dunn and will always think of you when I hear it. You know how I felt about you and told you many times in recent years when I saw you and I will always keep those thoughts forever close to me.
I love you both very much and will see you again someday but until then I will keep our memories together close to my heart.
Time to go hunting...............................................

What a privilege to have known Walt and Jackie at New Beginnings Church. They exhibited such a love for God, their family and all those around them. They shared many praise reports as their latter years unfolded and many of us were witnesses to God's goodness and mercy shown to them. They were so faithful in their giving, their prayers were lifted into eternity on behalf of their
family, finances, future. What a treasure they are to all who knew them. Heaven received these two saints in Glory; they are not far from us, for they are in the presence of the Lord. We will all miss their enduring spirits, walk of faith and love, and most of all, their intercessory prayer on behalf of our nation, leaders, destiny.
I loved them so much; my heart grieves with all the children and family left behind. My prayer is that they can focus on the memories of love and continue to life in harmony and peace among themselves, supporting one another during this period of great loss. I thank God for their friendship, example and abiding love for the Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
Kay Metsger

Dear/Deer
It is difficult to believe nearly a month has passed since the dreadful news we received about two of our most special people. We prayed for their strength, however; God felt their time on earth here was finished only 3 days apart, and He took them to their heavenly home. The reality has still not set in yet for most of us, and we are still trying to absorb the loss of two who are very dear to our hearts. Our ultimate goal, after the initial shock, was to place Jackie and Walt alongside in their final resting place at Lincoln Memorial Park August 30th finally arrived and a few tearfully watched as Jackie and Walt were laid to rest. The floral arrangements were perfectly placed on their graves(pictures taken if anyone prefers later), and they were lovely. The next morning, Sis received a call from Danny(son) saying "Got Some Not So Good News." At this point I'm thinking Lord You promised not to put more on our shoulders than we can bear. Please Lord no more sad news! It appeared that God's 4-legged critters(deer)had decided to rearrange the arrangements!! In surveying the damage, it appears they were more cordial deer, as no glass vases were broken, however; they apparently had a thing for roses, as Steve and Kim's bouquet originally had a dozen white roses, now there is ONLY 2!! In my opinion, these smart critters watched the entire process from afar, and decided HEY, when the moon appears tonight we'll pay the "O dell" headstone a visit. Perhaps, The Deer associated the name with long-time Eastern Oregon hunters and could this be the reason their buddies disappeared during prior hunting seasons. "PAYBACK" Having read signs at the cemetery warning against coyotes, etc. which many of us have seen on the cemetery grounds, If we had our "Thinkin Caps" on, we should have posted a sign "NO DEER CROSSING."In my opinion, The Sears Family should somehow be reimbursed for the 10 missing roses, either some DOE, or Venison. I'm confident that Jackie and Walt knew someone was trespassing above them. Jackie probably nudged Walt and said Forgive them, as they were hungry!! Walt on the other hand, probably said to Jackie WOW! this is the best hunting trip ever, they came to me, and I didn't have to waste my energy filling my tag! Anyone reading this who is a Bambi lover, know this was merely written to take our minds off(if only for a short while) of the dreadful happenings recently in the loss of our dearly missed loved ones . If it made you smile or chuckle, then my mission was accomplished!! Rest In Peace dear ones until we see you up yonder. Hugs and Kisses, and so proud to be your Sister.

Jeanie and Waltie like a matched set always together. They were all about family and dearly loved their children and extended family. We all felt the arms of their love around us. They were kind and thoughtful and giving and this came from them as natural as breathing, something we all should strive to achieve for it would make them both very happy.
They are so deeply missed and as such pillars of our family they are leaving a very large hole in our hearts and lives. I personally will miss Jeanie’s hugs and Waltie’s chuckle everyday. Our only comfort is they are still together.

These were two amazing people that will be missed, and never forgotten.
I am proud to be their daughter in law. They were just like my Mom and Dad, and when I lost my parents 40 years ago Jackie and Walt were there for me and treated me with love. Dan and I along with the rest of our family will always remember the holiday dinners, our hunting and camping trips, and all the love they have given us!!
I would like to share one of my personal memories that we had on one of our hunting trips to Mt. Emily in 1982( I think). Jackie and I were getting ready for the morning hunt, and when I turned around she was putting lipstick on! I said " You look beautiful, the elk are going to love it! Got to look good when your out in the woods. So funny
I guess it worked because Dan and his Dad (Walt) both got an elk!! It was a crazy hunting experience all the way around.
I know you are both at peace!!
Love forever Junebug ❤️

They were the most kind hearted, caring, compassionate people
that you could ever hope to know.
They never put their selves first and were always there with a prayer
or to help someone in need, even if they didn’t have enough themselves.
They were our “Breakfast Buddies” and will be missed here on this earthly plane.
Rest in peace, side by side, together always!
