Obituary of Julius Clair Thorne

Julius Thorne was born 3/4/1922 in Portland, Oregon to Irving and Grace. He passed away peacefully on 11/8/2020. Following graduation from Benson High School, he went to work for Boeing in Seattle. WWII broke out and he enlisted in the US Army. He fought in the Pacific Campaign and received the Bronze Star Metal. Upon returning from the war he met and married Bonnie Smith-Stolzenberg. He worked and retired from the City of Portland Water Bureau. He and his wife, Bonnie, owned and operated Portland Water Metric until selling the business in the early 1970's. They then moved to Montebello, California for 15 years. Afterwards, they moved back to Oregon and built a new home in Happy Valley. After Bonnie passed away in 2012, Julius moved to Glenmoore Gracious Retirement Living, there he met Patricia Utter. They had almost 6 happy years of life together. He enjoyed woodworking, making jewelry, gardening, eating out and visiting with numerous friends and family. He loved animals and always had a cat. Julius also loved to feed birds and other outdoor animals. Julius is survived by his daughter-in-law Linda, granddaughters Monica and husband, Kara and Shelley, grandsons Brian, wife and Michael, four great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons and numerous nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by wife, Bonnie and son Dennis. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite animal shelter or the Oregon Humane Society.
