Obituary of Patricia Deakin

Patricia Deakin passed away September 10, 2019 in Portland, Oregon. Patricia was born to Otillia and Fred Deakin on July 25, 1941 in Omaha, NE. Patricia was a 6 month preemie at only 2lbs 12oz. Her severe hearing loss was undiscovered until many years later. Medical and social practices were not in her favor. A few tried to help but little was available. At 14 she spent the next ten years in Fairview. When she returned home, MeRe, started by Barbara Place, a mother with a similar child, accepted her attendance. Patricia played accordion for them. MeRe became Eastco, a sheltered workshop in Gresham. It was a life saver for her and her aging parents. When mom died, Good Shepherd took on her care with an apartment close to home so she could check on dad daily. When dad died, her sister and nephew and 2 nieces moved to Portland to oversee her care. Bethesda Lutheran Communities provided residence and care in final years. Happily, Trimet Lift Services allowed her daily daytime with her sister and family. Patricia was our earthly angel in so many ways, helping and always reminding us to, “Be Happy”. Patricia had many hobbies, she enjoyed music, having experience playing the accordion, guitar and piano. She also earned a Special Olympics medal, enjoyed going bowling, spending time gardening, putting puzzles together and embroidery. She would watch Bonanza with the sound off. Survived by her brother Stan and sister in law Judy Deakin with nephews Derek and Doug and wife Emily Deakin. Sister, Deloris, with nieces Lara and Lisa and nephew Brian Storke. Our thanks to OHSU, Dr. Sanford, Providence Hospital doctors and nurses, Providence Hospice and to Eastco, Good Shepherd, Bethesda Lutheran Communities, Care Oregon, Multco, Trimet Lift Drivers and Les Aucoin, who helped with government issues. Our thanks also to Sunnyside Chapel of the Chimes for compassionate help and beautiful burial. Memorial contributions to Eastco, eacdos.org.
